Seated and looking up to Ceiling

When someone seated looks up at the ceiling when everyone else is getting up from their chair. What is this an indication of?

Our Answer

This is a tough one. To be honest I'm a bit stumped.

My initial thought is that it may be very intimidating to look at the people who are standing up...

It's like looking at a forest of people!

To ease this feeling of intimidation, I can imagine that you would look at the ceiling. But this is total interpretation by me, I don't remember seeing this brought up in body language research before.

If anyone else has another interpretation, please feel free to share it in the comments!

Defiance
by: Karen

My feeling is the person didn't want to be there or participate. Hesitating or staying seated when everyone around you stands shows lack of interest and cooperation. The person was looking up not at the ceiling its self but maybe asking God a question like "What am i doing here ?" or day dreaming about a happier event, OR just avoiding eye contact with everyone.

Is it disagreement?

It could be disagreement. Sitting down, taking time to clear mind from wrong concepts. The others standing up together represent agreement vs the meeting objective.

Could it be, "OMG..."

Could it be, "oh my God, what in heavens am I doing here?" I've had this feeling more than a couple times.
